As the NFL trade deadline approaches, Minnesota Vikings defensive line depth has drawn renewed attention from analysts, with Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Moro Ojomo emerging as a logical short-term target.

The Athletic’s Daniel Popper recently placed the Vikings at the top of his list of potential landing spots for the 25-year-old lineman, who is playing out the final year of his contract on a struggling Eagles roster.

Ojomo’s situation mirrors the path taken by Milton Williams a year earlier. With limited ability to retain three sizable veteran contracts at the same position, Philadelphia may prefer to move him rather than risk losing him for nothing in free agency next March.

Through the first six weeks of the season, Ojomo ranked second on the Eagles with 15 pressures, trailing only Jalen Carter, while also recording 13 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits.

He appeared as a starter only in Week 6, but he had already established himself as a regular contributor by the end of the previous season, when he finished with 38 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits, and six sacks.

That production has fueled significant free-agency projections.

Over the summer, Jeff Kerr of Eagles on SI estimated that Ojomo could command a four-year deal worth $92 million once he reaches the open market.

For a contending team, however, the more immediate appeal lies in his availability as a rental rather than a long-term commitment.

Minnesota’s defense currently ranks among the league’s top five units in points allowed, total yards, and rushing yards, yet its interior line remains relatively young and unproven.

Third-year player Jalen Redmond has enjoyed a strong start, and Levi Drake Rodriguez has exceeded early expectations, while rookies Caleb Banks and Domonique Orange have seen snaps as well.

Still, some advanced metrics, including Pro Football Focus grades, have been less enthusiastic about the group as a whole.

Adding Ojomo would not require the multi-year salary cap investment associated with a player such as Vita Vea, whose name has also surfaced in Vikings trade speculation.

A deal involving something short of a third-round pick could provide immediate interior pass-rush help for a playoff push without committing future resources.

Ojomo would also bring Super Bowl experience, having played 25 snaps in the Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Whether he assumed a starting role or primarily supplied rotational depth, he would give Minnesota a proven veteran option along a line that has otherwise relied on a mix of ascending young players and developmental pieces.

In a deadline market where cost and contract length often dictate fits, the Vikings appear well positioned to pursue exactly that kind of targeted reinforcement.
