Patriots Dealt $58.5 Million Update Before NFL Trade Deadline

The New England Patriots entered the week at 4-3 after a 30-24 loss to the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. That setback left them second in the AFC East, a game behind the Buffalo Bills, and underscored ongoing questions about consistency on both sides of the ball.

With the Nov. 10 trade deadline approaching, the Patriots appear positioned to explore moves that could address clear roster needs, particularly along the offensive line. Protection and run blocking have been uneven through seven games, and adding a proven interior presence could stabilize the unit for the stretch run.

The Athletic’s Daniel Popper included Philadelphia Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson on his latest trade board. Popper listed the Patriots among the best potential fits, alongside the Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders and Green Bay Packers.

“Dickerson has battled numerous injuries in his career. When he is somewhere close to healthy, though, he is a productive player. That was evident as recently as the Eagles’ playoff loss to the 49ers last season. The Eagles would take on $26.2 million in dead money in 2027 if they traded Dickerson before the deadline,” Popper wrote.

Dickerson, a three-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, has started the majority of his games since entering the league as a second-round pick in 2021. When available, he has graded as a high-level starter capable of elevating both the pass protection and ground game for a contending offense.

The 28-year-old has not played since Week 1. The Eagles placed him on injured reserve after he struggled through a knee bone bruise in the season-opening win over Washington. He has been working through that issue while also dealing with a recent pectoral muscle injury that has limited him in practice.

As of Friday, Dickerson remained limited and carried a questionable designation for Philadelphia’s Monday night game against the Dallas Cowboys. His availability has been uncertain for weeks, and any acquiring team would need to account for the recovery timeline.

The Eagles sit at 2-4 and have lost four straight. They have already seen significant turnover on the offensive line this season, including the retirement of tackle Lane Johnson and a trade of center/guard Cam Jurgens. That context has fueled speculation about additional moves.

For New England, the appeal is clear on paper. A healthy Dickerson would immediately upgrade the interior of an offensive line that has shown flashes but also vulnerabilities against stronger fronts. His experience in a Super Bowl-winning environment could also provide veteran leadership.

Any deal would carry risk. Dickerson’s injury history includes a meniscus issue that affected him last season, and the pectoral setback adds another variable. Teams pursuing him would likely want confirmation of his long-term health before parting with significant draft capital.

Contract considerations further complicate the picture. The Eagles reworked Dickerson’s deal this offseason, and a trade before the deadline would leave them with substantial dead money in 2027. That financial hit could influence how aggressively Philadelphia shops him.

The Patriots have shown a willingness to be active when opportunities arise. Their current standing keeps them in the playoff mix, and improving the line could help protect quarterback Drake Maye while opening more consistent running lanes.

League observers have noted multiple clubs that could pursue interior line help before the deadline. Popper’s board specifically flagged the Patriots as a logical landing spot given their needs and competitive posture.

Whether New England pursues Dickerson or looks elsewhere will depend on how the next two weeks unfold, both on the field and in the injury report. The deadline remains more than two weeks away, giving all parties time to evaluate options.
