Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys have gotten off to a 1-2 start this season, most recently falling to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3.
With the New York Giants on tap Thursday night, the Cowboys are in desperate need of a win, but it’s becoming clear that the team has issues.
Jones has taken full responsibility for Dallas’ slow start.
“That’s very fair,” Jones said during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan. “That’s very fair. It’s well known that no decision is ultimately made there for what I either have acquiesced or approve it. That’s very fair. How could you think otherwise if we are basically, whether it be who’s out there coaching, whether it be who’s out there playing, whether it be the stadium you’re walking into, whatever it is here, that’s the way it is now.”
Jones insisted that the Cowboys were “all in” heading into last offseason, but Dallas remained very quiet in free agency and didn’t exactly have a banner NFL Draft, either.
The Cowboys did manage to strike contract extensions with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb shortly before the start of the season, but the fans are expecting results.
They haven’t gotten positive ones thus far.
But Jones thinks that can change.
“I’m not trying to say this, but if you look at who’s won the games over the last four or five years, Kansas City has of course, but we’re not far right,” Jones said. “We’re right in that pack now. We’re in a soft spot. We’ve got to get out of it.”
Dallas has indeed reeled off three straight 12-win campaigns, but it has not produced much playoff success, as the team has won just one postseason game during that span.
Heck, based on the way they have started the season, the Dallas Cowboys shouldn’t even be thinking about a playoff run. They should be aiming to merely make the playoffs, period.
