Less than two weeks after a promising season came to an end with a thud for them, the Philadelphia Eagles are still seemingly conducting an autopsy. While the core of their roster remains strong, some feel some reinforcements are needed.
Many have also pointed fingers at their coaching staff, in particular head coach Nick Sirianni. There have been reports that Sirianni lost the locker room at some point during the season, which led to speculation that Philly may fire him.
Instead, the team, at least so far, has fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai. According to Jeff McLane, an Eagles beat reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Sirianni was the one who decided to dismiss Desai, which seems to be a sign that Sirianni’s job is safe.
Nick Sirianni did the firing, NFL sources said, another indication that the #Eagles HC will likely be returning.

The Desai departure was obvious, as will be Patricia likely joining him. More changes will be coming to Sirianni’s staff.

Last season, the Eagles got to the doorstep of a world championship in large part because of their defense. They ranked second in total yards allowed and were tops in passing yards allowed during the 2022 campaign, and they allowed only seven points apiece in their two NFC playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl.

But this season was a different story, as they were near the bottom of the league in several key defensive categories. As a result, Desai’s play-calling duties were transferred at midseason to Matt Patricia, a senior defensive assistant coach for the team.
When Philly lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round of the playoffs earlier this month, it gave up 426 total yards of offense and allowed the Buccaneers to score two touchdowns in the final 16:19 after it was already down by nine points.
One has to figure that as long as they remain relatively healthy, the Eagles will be back in the playoffs next season for a fourth consecutive time, but they have some work to do if they want to bring home another Vince Lombardi Trophy.
