Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is playing at an MVP pace this season, but he has still not secured a long-term contract with the team.

However, Bleacher Report’s NFL insider Jordan Schultz says the wait may be coming to an end.

While making an appearance on FS1’s Speak on Thursday morning, Schultz said that Prescott is expected to work out an extension with the Cowboys that will pay him in the neighborhood of $55-60 annually, which could make him the highest-paid player in football.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow recently signed a multi-year deal that will pay him $55 million a year, but Schultz thinks that amount will be the floor for Prescott.

Schultz adds that both sides are “highly motivated” and says that Prescott currently has a no-trade and no-tag clause, meaning that the 30-year-old has a lot of leverage. He says there is “no question” that both Prescott and Dallas owner Jerry Jones want to get something done.

Schultz concluded by saying that there is no way the Cowboys will allow Prescott to reach free agency after next season.

Through 15 games this year, Prescott leads the NFL with 30 touchdown passes and has thrown for 3,892 yards and just seven interceptions while completing 68.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 104.2. He has also added 237 rushing yards and a couple of scores on the ground.

Prescott, who played his collegiate football at Mississippi State, was selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Due to a preseason injury to Tony Romo, Prescott immediately stepped into the starting role as Dallas’ quarterback and has been under center ever since.

Prescott has made a couple of Pro Bowl appearances, and although he has been inconsistent, he has unquestionably established himself as the Cowboys’ franchise quarterback.

Of course, Dallas would like to see him generate more postseason success, as Prescott has yet to make it past the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Then again, the Cowboys have not made it to the NFC Championship Game since the 1995-96 campaign—when they last won the Super Bowl.

Dak Prescott and Co. are 10-5 and will take on the Detroit Lions this Sunday.
