Former UFC champion Conor McGregor is facing a lawsuit over an alleged sexual assault that took place during the 2023 NBA Finals. The woman accusing McGregor of assault is also suing employees of the Kaseya Center, the Miami Heat’s home arena, where she claims the incident occurred.
The woman, a 49-year-old senior vice president at a major Wall Street financial institution, alleges that McGregor assaulted her in a bathroom at the arena on June 9, 2023, following Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, claims that McGregor’s behavior was facilitated by staff and security who failed to provide adequate protection or respond appropriately.
“My client has thought long and hard about the decision to pursue this civil case, and is fearful of the effect it may have on her job on Wall Street,” said the woman’s attorney, James Dunn. “Nonetheless, her main goal in filing this suit is to raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault.”
The lawsuit further alleges that Kaseya Center staff had “actual knowledge of the wrongfulness of the conduct” but failed to intervene. It also accuses the arena’s employees of continuing to serve McGregor alcohol despite knowing the risk of violence.
McGregor was attending the game for a promotional skit in which he struck the Heat’s mascot, Burnie, and then punched it again after it fell to the ground. Following the game, the woman claims she was led to the men’s bathroom by an individual affiliated with McGregor, where the assault allegedly took place.
Authorities investigated the incident but later announced that no criminal charges would be filed.
This lawsuit adds to Conor McGregor’s legal troubles. In November 2024, a civil court jury in Ireland awarded €250,000 to a woman who accused McGregor of “brutally raping and battering” her. McGregor, a former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, is known for being the first UFC fighter to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously.
