The New Orleans Saints have heard from other teams about quarterback Spencer Rattler, but they are not ready to move him, according to a report Saturday.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that New Orleans has received trade interest in Rattler. The Saints still plan to keep him.
Fowler said Rattler is expected to provide depth behind starter Tyler Shough, barring a change.
“The Saints received trade interest in QB Spencer Rattler but plan to keep him, per sources,” Fowler wrote. “Rattler will serve as quality depth behind Tyler Shough, barring a change.”
The news landed a day after Rattler played in the Saints’ 27-24 preseason win over the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.
Rattler scored on an eight-yard run as New Orleans bounced back from a shutout loss to the Rams a week earlier.
Trade talk around Rattler is not new. His name came up often during the offseason as a possible piece New Orleans might move. This time, the interest went beyond rumor.
At least one team made a real check.
Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars inquired about Rattler.
“Jacksonville had inquired about Rattler as well,” Underhill wrote.
Jacksonville did not complete a deal for him. The Jaguars instead acquired quarterback Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins in a swap of 2028 late-round draft picks.
Before the 2026 draft, ESPN’s Adam Schefter listed Rattler among quarterbacks who could draw attention. The Saints kept him then, and they appear set to keep him now.
Rattler and Zach Wilson spent camp competing for the backup job behind Shough. Coaches said both played well.
Keeping Rattler gives New Orleans a cheap and experienced insurance policy. He has made 14 NFL starts in two seasons.
In 2025, Rattler completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 1,586 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions before Shough took over. As a rookie, he completed 57 percent of his throws with four touchdowns and five interceptions.
Over The Cap lists Rattler with a $1.159 million cap charge in 2026 and $1.274 million in 2027. He remains on his rookie deal through next season.
Shough is the clear starter after throwing for 2,384 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie in 2025. Rattler gives the Saints someone who has already started if Shough is hurt or struggles.
Unless another club offers more than that backup value is worth, New Orleans looks content to keep the room together.
