Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been facing plenty of challenges from her opponents on the court. On Sunday against the Phoenix Mercury, she was facing another; illness.
She is the focus of every opponent’s game plan defensively given her incredible skills. Opponents play her hard, but on Sunday she faced the challenge not only presented by the Mercury but of a migraine.
That didn’t stop Caitlin Clark from having one of the best all-around games of her young professional career. She scored 15 points with 12 rebounds and nine assists, falling only one short of becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double.
While her efficiency was not great, she was still able to help the Indiana Fever come away with an impressive victory. Despite trailing 17-4 out of the gate and by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Fever were able to come back and win 88-82.
Caitlin Clark did not have a post-game press conference because she was not feeling well. But, after the game, she did an on-court interview where she expressed her excitement about the game’s outcome.
“I’m just happy we won,” said Clark. “It was cool to play against [Taurasi], and obviously a really great game. This crowd was absolutely incredible.”
As the case has been all season, the Indiana Fever had a solid showing from their fan base despite being on the road. They made their presence felt among the 17,071 people who were in attendance at Footprint Center.
They were sent home happy thanks to the performance of Caitlin Clark and her teammates. Aliyah Boston led the way with 17 points, while NaLyssa Smith scored 12 with 15 rebounds.
Five different players scored in double-figures for the Indiana Fever, who improved to 8-12 on the season with the win. For the Mercury, Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi led the way with 24 and 19 points, respectively.
