The Tennessee Titans have waived/injured undrafted rookie linebacker Sean Brown, ending his brief tenure with the club just weeks into the 2026 preseason.
The move came as the team signed cornerback Corey Mayfield Jr. in a corresponding roster adjustment.
Brown, a 5-foot-11, 221-pound product of North Carolina State, signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft.
He appeared in the preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers, recording one tackle before the injury designation. If he clears waivers, he is expected to revert to injured reserve and could become eligible for an injury settlement.
What made Brown an intriguing developmental prospect was his versatility. At NC State, he began his college career as a safety before converting to linebacker ahead of his junior season.
Over five seasons (2021-25), he played in 48 games with 29 starts—18 at linebacker and 11 at defensive back. That dual-position experience gave him the range, athleticism, and ball skills of a defensive back combined with the instincts of a linebacker.
In total, Brown amassed 225 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions, seven pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.
His best year came in 2024, when he led the Wolfpack with 96 tackles, added 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks, and earned honorable mention All-ACC honors. He was voted a team captain in both 2024 and 2025. His final college season was cut short by injury after five games in 2025, during which he still posted 44 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Titans scouts valued the athleticism that came from his safety background. Brown possessed the speed and explosiveness to cover ground quickly, along with a nose for the football that translated well in both run support and coverage.
That positional flexibility made him a potential special-teams contributor and depth piece who could handle multiple roles on defense.
While his time in Nashville proved short, Brown’s college résumé highlighted a player capable of adapting and contributing across the secondary and front seven.
At 23 years old, the Charlotte native will now look for another opportunity to continue his professional career once healthy. The Titans, meanwhile, continue reshaping their roster as training camp progresses.
