An NFL scout has delivered a stark evaluation of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, declaring the longtime star finished as a productive force following his high-profile marriage to Taylor Swift.

The assessment arrives as Kelce prepares for his 14th professional season at age 36, a stage when many players see their skills diminish amid the physical demands of the league.

“Kelce is done. That’s over. What you saw last year – that’s what he is,” one NFL advance scout said, according to a report from veteran insider Jason La Canfora.

The blunt remark reflects growing skepticism among evaluators about Kelce’s remaining value, especially with quarterback Patrick Mahomes returning from knee surgery and the Chiefs relying on a largely unproven group of wide receivers.

La Canfora himself referred to the tight end as “Mr. Taylor Swift” after the couple’s July 3 wedding, noting that some personnel observers now see him primarily as a short-yardage decoy rather than a consistent difference-maker.

Kelce’s 2025 numbers provided fuel for those doubts. He finished with 76 receptions, his lowest total since 2015, along with 851 receiving yards, one of his weakest full-season outputs.

His drop rate climbed to 7.8 percent, nearly double his career average, while touchdown production has slowed dramatically—just 13 scores across the past three seasons compared with 12 in 2022 alone.

Metrics tracking air yards per target and separation from defenders have also trended downward, and he slipped in ESPN’s annual tight end rankings.

Not every voice shares the scout’s finality. Former general manager Mike Tannenbaum suggested this offseason that he would not have retained Kelce, arguing teams must pay for future production rather than past accomplishments.

Some analysts have even tied the statistical decline to the start of Kelce’s relationship with Swift in 2023. Chiefs coach Andy Reid has pushed back on conditioning concerns, saying Kelce returned to camp looking much the same as always and dismissing talk of a “dad bod.”

Former quarterback Rich Gannon, who played under Reid, expressed confidence that the coach will carefully manage Kelce’s workload to extract what remains of his effectiveness.

Still, the broader conversation around Kansas City’s offense has grown cautious. Analyst Brian Baldinger told La Canfora he does not view the unit as particularly strong at this point.

As training camp continues, the Chiefs face a practical question about how heavily their scheme should continue to feature a tight end who once ranked among the league’s most reliable weapons but now confronts the realities of age and declining output.
