Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson and center Connor McGovern both exited Saturday’s practice with injuries, via Bills beat writer Andy Young.

Johnson went down during a one-on-one pass rep against linebacker Joe Andreessen. Athletic training staff quickly attended to him on the field before helping the veteran back to the locker room. He left the session limping, raising immediate questions about the severity of the issue.

Johnson has been a reliable contributor in the Bills’ backfield in recent seasons, often providing depth and receiving out of the backfield when called upon. His absence, even if temporary, could shift responsibilities among the remaining running backs as the team works through the remainder of camp and prepares for the preseason schedule.

Not long after Johnson’s exit, center Connor McGovern also left the field after a play involving an interception by cornerback Christian Benford. McGovern was seen limping as he made his way to the locker room.

As the starting center, McGovern plays a critical role in the offensive line’s communication and protection schemes. Any extended time away would force adjustments among the interior linemen and potentially affect the rhythm of the offense during practice periods.

Both incidents occurred on the same day, adding to the natural physical toll that training camp takes on players.

The Bills have managed various injury situations throughout camp, but the simultaneous departures of a key skill-position contributor and a foundational offensive lineman stand out.

Official updates on the status of either player had not been released immediately following practice, leaving the extent of the injuries and expected recovery timelines unclear.

For a team aiming to maintain continuity and competition across the roster, these developments underscore the importance of depth.

The coaching staff will likely monitor both players closely in the coming days, with further evaluations determining whether either is able to return for upcoming sessions.

In the meantime, other players at running back and along the offensive line will receive additional opportunities to demonstrate readiness.

The situations involving Johnson and McGovern serve as reminders of the unpredictable nature of the preseason period, when every practice carries the potential for setbacks even as the roster continues to take shape.
