Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III left Saturday’s training camp practice early after appearing to suffer an injury during one-on-one drills.

The second-year player tangled with cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and went down hard on the field. He limped off with assistance from a trainer and did not return for the remainder of the session.

A video recorded by a spectator later showed Burden moving carefully as he headed toward the locker room. The incident occurred before the team moved into 11-on-11 work.

Burden has been working toward a starting role this season after a strong rookie year in 2025. The Bears traded veteran receiver D.J. Moore in the offseason, opening more opportunities for the former second-round draft pick to handle a larger share of the targets.

Head coach Ben Johnson did not meet with reporters after the August 8 practice. As a result, the team provided no immediate information about the nature or severity of Burden’s issue.

Reporters are expected to seek an update when Johnson addresses the media following Sunday’s practice. Until then, the status of the wide receiver remains unclear.

An extended absence for Burden would force the Bears to adjust their plans at the receiver position. The offense already features other capable pass-catchers who could step into larger roles if needed.

Rome Odunze, selected in the first round in 2024, continues to develop as a primary option in the passing game. Tight end Colston Loveland, who produced well as a rookie, is also expected to remain a frequent target in Ben Johnson’s scheme.

Veteran Kalif Raymond joined the team on a one-year contract and brings nearly 200 career receptions across nine NFL seasons. His experience could prove useful in any short-term shuffle of the depth chart.

Rookie Zavion Thomas, taken in the third round, has drawn attention during camp with his speed and playmaking ability. Analysts initially viewed him more as a special-teams contributor, yet his early work has raised the possibility of expanded offensive snaps once he masters the playbook.

Undrafted free agent Jahdae Walker showed flashes last season, including a touchdown catch against the Green Bay Packers that helped force overtime in a key game. Scotty Miller also remains available as a veteran depth piece who could see additional practice repetitions.

The Bears appear prepared to evaluate these alternatives while monitoring Burden’s condition. For the moment, the focus stays on determining how much practice time the young receiver might miss and whether the setback will affect his progress toward a full-time starting job.

Johnson and the coaching staff will continue assessing the group’s overall readiness as camp moves forward.

The coming days should bring clearer answers about Burden’s availability and any necessary adjustments along the receiving corps.
