Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson addressed questions about his future with the team Wednesday, as the final year of his current deal approaches and several key players face similar uncertainty.

Hockenson is entering the last season of his contract and ranks among a handful of Vikings standouts who could soon seek new agreements. Wide receiver Jordan Addison had touched on his own situation a day earlier, and Hockenson followed by sharing his thoughts on the ongoing talks.

The veteran tight end made clear he remains content in Minnesota. Meeting with reporters, he said, “I’ve always said this very openly. I love this place, I’ve really enjoyed being here, playing for KO, this locker room, being around these guys.”

Team officials reworked Hockenson’s deal in March, reducing his base salary from $21.3 million to $16.3 million. That original figure had stood as the highest at the position when agreed upon. The adjustment provided the franchise some added salary-cap room heading into the new year.

Hockenson is expected to open the 2026 season as the starter at tight end. He aims to rebound after a challenging campaign last year, when lingering effects from a prior injury limited his output. He finished with 51 receptions for 438 yards and three touchdowns.

A shoulder problem late in the 2025 season forced him to sit out the final two contests. That setback compounded earlier recovery work from a knee injury first sustained in 2023, which affected him across the following two seasons.

National analysts have questioned the value of Hockenson’s four-year, $66 million extension from 2023. One ranking placed it among the 10 least favorable contracts in the league, pointing to just three touchdowns since the start of 2024 and consecutive seasons under 500 receiving yards. His status as the third-highest paid tight end has drawn further scrutiny.

Still, when healthy, Hockenson has shown he can contribute solidly in the passing game and as a blocker. The coming season offers a chance to prove the knee issues are behind him and that production can return to previous levels.

Vikings decision-makers face several contract choices involving star talent in the months ahead. Hockenson’s performance will factor into whether the team invests further at the position or explores alternatives.

A strong bounce-back year could reinforce confidence in the tight end group for the long term. A continued dip, however, might prompt the organization to consider different paths.

Preseason practices and the early regular-season schedule will provide the first real measures of where Hockenson stands physically and statistically. Those results will shape discussions as the calendar moves toward potential extension talks or free-agency decisions next offseason.

For now, the Iowa product has expressed satisfaction with his surroundings and the coaching staff led by Kevin O’Connell. That sentiment comes as the Vikings prepare for another campaign under the same leadership and roster core.

How the tight end responds on the field remains the central question. His ability to stay healthy and produce will largely determine the next chapter of his time in Minnesota.
