The Seattle Seahawks are taking a close look at adding depth to their backfield as they prepare for a Week 3 meeting with the Washington Commanders.

On Tuesday, the club hosted former Eastern Michigan running back Dontae McMillan for a visit (via the NFL transaction wire), a move that comes as rookie first-round pick Jadarian Price deals with a shoulder injury that first appeared during Sunday’s win at Arizona.

McMillan, a Seattle native, went undrafted after a productive 2025 college season in which he rushed for 1,014 yards on 177 carries and added 375 receiving yards on 33 catches. Combined, those numbers pushed him past the 1,300-yard mark as a dual-threat back.

He signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent and showed flashes in the preseason, including a 63-yard run among 15 carries for 109 yards.

Baltimore waived him at the end of camp, leaving him available as a free agent.

Seattle’s interest is tied to uncertainty around Price. The Notre Dame product left Sunday’s game after what was first described as a chest issue.

Coach Mike Macdonald later clarified that the problem is in the shoulder area but described it as intact and not serious.

Negative X-rays on Sunday offered additional reassurance, yet Price’s availability for Sunday in Washington remains unclear and will be determined by how he responds in practice this week.

Emanuel Wilson and George Holani handled the bulk of the remaining work against Arizona, but the staff is clearly exploring extra insurance.

The same day the Seahawks also brought in wide receivers Malick Meiga and Eli Pancol for workouts, a reminder that roster evaluation continues even after a 2-0 start. Whether any of the visitors receive a contract is still unknown.

McMillan’s local ties and recent production at both the college and preseason levels make him a logical candidate if the team decides it needs another body at running back.

Price’s injury is not expected to be long-term, and Macdonald has sounded optimistic. Still, the NFL season is unforgiving, and a first-round running back missing even one game can force adjustments.

Hosting McMillan so close to game week suggests the Seahawks want options ready if Price is limited or held out.

For a team that has already navigated quarterback uncertainty with Sam Darnold’s glute issue, adding another layer of depth at a premium position is a cautious but understandable step as they try to stay undefeated.
