According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Orioles have engaged in conversations with multiple clubs about the highly regarded backstop while weighing all options in the final days before the deadline.
Rutschman has established himself as one of the premier catchers in the game since his arrival in the majors, blending elite defensive skills behind the plate with a polished offensive approach that has made him a cornerstone of Baltimore’s recent contention efforts.
Moving a player of his caliber would represent a significant shift for an organization that has invested heavily in its young core, yet Feinsand’s reporting indicates the Orioles are casting a wide net as they evaluate their path forward.
Six clubs have been identified as potential destinations, reflecting a broader need for catching help across the league. The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers, and Los Angeles Dodgers are among the teams believed to be seeking upgrades at the position.
Feinsand noted that while the Dodgers appear on that list, a deal involving Rutschman remains unlikely given the positive trajectory of Will Smith’s health. Still, he cautioned that overlooking the Dodgers in any trade scenario would be unwise, given their history of aggressive roster moves.
Any potential transaction would hinge on the return package Baltimore could secure, the willingness of other clubs to part with meaningful talent, and the Orioles’ internal assessment of their current standing.

Rutschman is a three-time All-Star who is slashing .251/.331/.433 with eight home runs and 47 RBI over 284 plate appearances this season.
The 28-year-old is currently on the injured list due to a wrist issue. It marks his third time on the injured list here in 2026.
Rutschman broke into the big leagues in 2022. Since then, he has slashed .254/.342/.414 while also playing elite defense behind the plate.
The former first-round pick is under club control through the end of 2027.
