The White House border czar has issued a firm warning about an impending increase in immigration enforcement operations across New York City. Tom Homan emphasized that the Trump administration remains undeterred by local leadership’s strong commitment to sanctuary policies.
In a recent television appearance, Homan made his position unmistakably clear. “It’s coming,” he stated on Fox & Friends on Sunday.
Homan chose not to reveal specific timelines or tactics for the planned actions. He explained that this cautious approach protects operational integrity against potential disruptions from outside organizations.
“ICE is operating in New York City today. We’re operating across the state today, but there’s going to be a surge, and there needs to be a surge,” he said. “But I am not going to show our hand because there are… well-funded groups who will try to impede, interfere. We’re not going give them any upside on this.”
These comments arrive amid heightened tensions between federal authorities and city officials. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently voiced strong support for the metropolis maintaining its longstanding sanctuary designation.
During a Saturday interview with The New York Times, Mamdani highlighted his administration’s stance on cooperation with federal immigration efforts.
“What we are unwilling to do is to participate in civil immigration enforcement with a federal government that has said openly it wants to deport a vast majority of people for crimes that we will never even know,” he remarked.
When pressed on whether he had visited the southern border to gain firsthand perspective, the mayor offered a direct response. “No.”
Homan directly addressed Mamdani’s comments, arguing that while the mayor is entitled to his views, they will not hinder federal agents from carrying out their duties. He stressed that local resistance cannot override national immigration priorities.
