As Arch Manning prepares for his second season as the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, the spotlight on him has rarely been brighter. Few players in college football enter a new campaign carrying the weight of expectations quite like the young signal-caller.

With a full year of experience now under his belt, the coming months represent a critical chapter in his development and future plans.

Last season brought a mix of impressive moments and occasional struggles for Manning. He accumulated 3,163 passing yards while recording 26 touchdowns against seven interceptions. On the ground, he added 399 rushing yards and 10 scores, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities in Steve Sarkisian’s offense.

Despite those respectable statistics, the performance fell short of the Heisman Trophy contender status that many analysts had forecasted for the former five-star prospect. Observers had anticipated a more dominant showing, given his pedigree and the hype surrounding his arrival in Austin.

Heading into his fourth year with the program overall, Manning continues to draw attention as one of the premier quarterback prospects ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft. Both ESPN analysts Matt Miller and Jordan Reid currently rank him as the top quarterback available in that upcoming class, highlighting his long-term potential at the professional level.

Yet the path forward remains open-ended. While many assume a jump to the NFL is inevitable, recent comments from head coach Steve Sarkisian suggest fans should not rule out another year in college.

“You know, we haven’t had the discussion, but I will tell you, I would not be surprised,” Sarkisian said. “I think Arch really loves college football, I really do. I think he loves the University of Texas, you know, he does pretty good through NIL, you know, he’s got some pretty good endorsements going right now, which is a credit to him. And obviously, the lineage of the last name and the brand of the University of Texas, all those things coming together, but again, on the same token, I won’t be surprised if he declares and decides to go to the draft.”

Sarkisian’s remarks underscore the unique position Manning occupies. The combination of his deep affection for the sport, strong connection to the university, lucrative name-image-likeness opportunities, and the powerful Manning family legacy in football all factor into the equation. At the same time, the allure of turning professional could prove too strong to ignore.

Team success is expected to weigh heavily on Manning’s ultimate choice. The Longhorns currently sit tied for the third-best odds to capture the national championship at +750, according to DraftKings. A deep playoff run or title contention could influence whether he returns for one more collegiate season.

Individual statistics will also play a pivotal role. Stronger production and fewer inconsistencies could solidify his draft stock, while another year refining his game in Austin might offer additional growth before making the leap.

The standard deadline for declaring for the NFL Draft typically arrives in mid-January. With considerable time still ahead before that cutoff, the entire 2026 college football season will likely serve as the deciding chapter.

How Arch Manning performs and how far Texas advances could ultimately shape whether he stays in the burnt orange or begins his professional journey.
