Ohio State Delivers Punishment to Top Freshman

Ohio State is preparing for the 2026 college football season under head coach Ryan Day, with high expectations and little room for early missteps.

The Buckeyes open their campaign on Sept. 5 against Ball State at Ohio Stadium before traveling to face Texas in a high-profile early matchup.

In a sport where one loss can complicate College Football Playoff hopes, the program is focused on getting every player ready. That effort recently included a disciplinary step involving one of the team’s most intriguing young talents.

Freshman running back Legend Bey was held out of practice after violating team rules.

According to reporting from Dave Biddle of Bucknuts, Bey missed a session and was expected to sit out the following day as well before returning for Saturday’s practice.

The issue was described as relatively minor, resulting in only a short absence rather than an extended suspension. Day and his staff appear to have used the situation as a clear but measured message about standards and accountability.

Bey arrived at Ohio State as a highly regarded prospect with a background as a high school quarterback. He has since transitioned to running back, a move that highlights his athleticism and versatility.

Ranked as the No. 6 athlete and No. 151 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, the four-star talent chose the Buckeyes over several other major programs, including Tennessee, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas. His ability to create plays with the ball in his hands has generated excitement about his long-term potential and the possibility of contributing even as a freshman.

While established back Bo Jackson is projected to handle the primary running back duties, Bey’s skill set could still earn him opportunities in specific packages or situational roles if he continues developing.

The light discipline suggests the coaching staff believes the matter can be resolved quickly and that Bey remains part of the team’s plans. For a young player adjusting to the demands of a championship-caliber program, the episode serves as an early lesson in professionalism.

As camp continues and the season approaches, Ohio State will look for Bey to put the incident behind him and focus on earning trust through consistent effort. Day has long emphasized culture and detail, and this handling of a freshman reflects that approach.

Whether Bey makes an immediate impact or develops over time, the expectation is that he will respond the right way.

For now, the Buckeyes move forward with their preparation, aware that every practice and every decision contributes to readiness for a demanding schedule ahead.
