Browns QB Battle Takes Another Turn After 9th Interception

Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson take part in a drill on the first day of minicamp at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus of the Cleveland Browns in Berea, Ohio on June 9, 2026.

The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback battle continues to rage in training camp, and while Deshuan Watson may be considered the “favorite” to win the job, it doesn’t mean things are going well for him.

Watson threw his ninth interception in 12 training camp practices on Tuesday while trying to squeeze a ball into double coverage, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

The veteran is generally considered to be ahead of Shedeur Sanders in the race, which also doesn’t say much for Sanders’ performance.

But many Browns fans would prefer to roll with Sanders, the younger option.

In fact, following yet another pick from Watson, many fans were calling for the three-time Pro Bowler to get cut, and they made their feelings clear on social media.

“Just cut him already,” one fan wrote in the comments of Cabot’s X post.

“Simply have never seen a player fall from grace this hard before. He’s terrible,” a second fan commented.

“Continuing to employ this dude who is also bad at football is quite the choice,” another person remarked.

“This is getting sad. Enough of Deshaun Watson!” said another user.

The problem? The Browns can’t cut Watson because of his contract. If Cleveland decided to release the 30-year-old, it would have to eat nearly $41 million in dead money.

It’s also blatantly obvious that the Browns don’t think they have any better options under center, whether that’s Sanders, Dillon Gabriel or rookie Taylen Green.

Cleveland will probably use more than one signal-caller this season, but the likelihood of Watson starting Week 1 seems pretty high.

Watson has not played since 2024. He missed all of last year with a torn Achilles.
