Dwight Howard is extending his basketball journey with a new chapter in the BIG3.
The league announced Monday that the eight-time NBA All-Star has officially joined the Los Angeles Riot for the 2025 BIG3 season. Howard will team up with head coach and former NBA guard Nick Young as the Riot aims to make noise in the 3-on-3 league’s upcoming campaign.
“On behalf of the entire league, I want to be the first one to welcome Dwight Howard to the BIG3,” BIG3 CEO Ice Cube said in a statement. “His legacy speaks for itself, and he still has fun playing the game. We all know that Dwight Howard can do more on the basketball court than he was able to show in the NBA. So, it’s going to be nice to see him open up his game and show his all-around skills on the court in the BIG3.”
Dwight Howard Was Named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame

Howard’s return to the hardwood follows the recent announcement of his selection to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class. The 39-year-old is being honored for a prolific 18-year NBA career that featured three Defensive Player of the Year awards, five All-Defensive selections, and a key role on the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 championship team.
Howard last played in the NBA during the 2021–22 season with the Lakers. After failing to land another NBA deal, he spent the 2022–23 season in Taiwan’s T1 League with the Taoyuan Leopards, where he earned league MVP and led the league in rebounding.
Now, Howard joins a growing list of former NBA stars who have extended their careers through the BIG3. He’ll line up alongside co-captain Jordan Crawford, another NBA veteran who spent time with five teams during his six-year career.
The BIG3’s 2025 season tips off June 14 in Chicago.
