The Indiana Fever entered Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Dream on a three-game winning streak. They were able to keep that streak alive in front of a record crowd that wanted to watch Caitlin Clark play.
The Dream, who normally play at a 3,500-capacity arena in College Park, Georgia, moved their game against the Indiana Fever to State Farm Arena, where the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks play. It was the smart decision, as the arena was packed with fans wanting to see the Iowa star.
They were treated to a show, unless they were Dream fans, as the Indiana Fever won in blowout fashion, 91-79. Caitlin Clark scored 16 points in the game, going 4-of-8 from 3-point range, with seven assists and four rebounds.
The massive crowd isn’t anything that phased her, as she is used to big turnarounds from her time at Iowa. In the WNBA, crowds of this size are very rare but are becoming more common whenever Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever hit the road.
“These type of environments for me, it’s not that different [than college],” Clark said Friday. “Yeah, I’m putting on a different jersey. But these environments are something that I become … I don’t want to say ‘used to’ … but you’re accustomed to playing in. And it’s fun.
“I’ve never played in Atlanta before. It’s fun going to all these new cities as a rookie and getting to play in front of their crowds. Obviously, there’s a lot of Fever gear out there. You could just feel the energy in the building, and that’s what makes basketball so fun.”
The Indiana Fever certainly looks like they are having more fun on the court. After a brutal start to the season, facing a difficult schedule, the team started 1-8. They have been playing much better of late, winning four in a row and pushing their record to 7-10.
2015 was the last time that the Indiana Fever won four games in a row in a season. The young squad, led by Caitlin Clark, is starting to find their footing. Four games are remaining on this road trip, which they will look to prove this turnaround isn’t a fluke.
After playing in front of a record 17,575, the most in attendance for a Dream game ever, watching the Indiana Fever will continue to be a hot ticket. Prices for their game on Sunday against the Chicago Sky are averaging $351.
That is the most ever for a WNBA game on record according to Vivid Seats. Information on that goes back to 2015, as people are showing up on droves and willing to pay premium prices to watch Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever play.
