LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers will be watching the 2024 NBA Finals from their couch like most fans. Los Angeles was eliminated in the first round by the Denver Nuggets, who got beaten by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota was then eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks and Kyrie Irving in the Western Conference Finals.

Dallas is a team that LeBron James will be keeping a close eye on in the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. He has not been shy about sharing his admiration for Kyrie Irving, as it would be fair to assume James is rooting for the Mavericks.

In a recent episode of the Mind The Game Pod with JJ Redick, LeBron James spoke a lot about Kyrie Irving. He admitted to having anger that the two aren’t teammates any more and praised how good of a player the Duke product is.

“I’m so f*cking mad that I am not his running mate anymore… He’s the most gifted player the NBA has ever seen,” LeBron James said of Kyrie Irving, via NBA Central on X.

The two shared some special times during their tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Three trips to the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, with one victory, cemented their legacies in Cleveland.

They went their separate ways, as the breakup in Cleveland was a rather nasty one. Both have admitted to growing since. Rumors have swirled about the two potentially becoming teammates in the years after, but it never came to fruition.

Now, the two have a lot of respect for each other. A reunion at some point is certainly possible; never say never when it comes to play movement in the NBA. But for now, LeBron James will be watching as a fan, as Kyrie Irving hopes to achieve his second NBA Championship with Luka Doncic as his star running mate.
