In a dramatic game during Friday’s NBA action, the Golden State Warriors narrowly escaped a significant upset, securing a 113-109 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

This win comes amidst a challenging season, highlighted by Stephen Curry’s critical performance in the closing moments of the game. However, the team’s struggles were compounded by a significant injury to Chris Paul.

The Warriors confirmed after the game that Paul suffered a fractured left hand during the match and is scheduled for surgery the following week. The injury, which occurred in the third quarter, led to his immediate withdrawal from the game.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr expressed his concern for Paul in the postgame press conference, acknowledging Paul’s previous hand surgeries and emphasizing the team’s need to adapt in his absence. This injury is a further blow to Golden State following Gary Payton II’s recent Grade 2 hamstring strain, which will keep him out for at least three weeks.

“That’s tough. I feel so bad for Chris,” Kerr said. “I know he’s had a couple of hand surgeries before, I believe, I think it was, on the other hand. But yeah, I saw him holding it and instantly was worried. Just got the word after walking off the floor. So I feel terrible for Chris, and obviously, guys will step up and be ready to play. We’ve gotta hold down the fort without him.”

The Warriors’ victory over the Pistons comes after a disheartening loss to the Denver Nuggets, where they surrendered a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter. This recent performance pattern has raised questions about Kerr’s lineup decisions, especially after reports suggested Jonathan Kuminga’s confidence in the coach was dwindling.

Draymond Green’s expected return from his suspension is a glimmer of hope for the Warriors. However, with Paul and Payton sidelined, the team faces ongoing challenges with chemistry and continuity that have plagued their season since its start.
