The Washington Commanders were one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL last season, and a big reason for that was Jayden Daniels’ inability to stay healthy.
Daniels played in just seven games for the Commanders in 2025, and even when he was healthy, he wasn’t very effective.
Washington is also sorely lacking in weapons right now outside of Terry McLaurin, who had a very disappointing campaign last season. Yes, the Commanders nabbed Antonio Williams in the NFL Draft, but they could use some more proven targets.
The general expectation is that Brandon Aiyuk will join Daniels — his former Arizona State teammate — in the nation’s capital once the San Francisco 49ers release him, but Aiyuk hasn’t played since 2024.
Could Washington go in a different direction or bring in an extra wide receiver in addition to Aiyuk?
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton thinks so, naming the Commanders the top free-agent destination for Stefon Diggs, who is still surprisingly available.
“Entering his age-32 season, Stefon Diggs can be a reliable No. 2 wideout. He caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns with a career-high 83.3 percent catch rate as the New England Patriots’ go-to target last year,” Moton wrote. “Diggs could sign a homecoming contract with the Commanders in the coming weeks.”
The Patriots released Diggs after the 2025 campaign in what was a rather unexpected move, but it coincided with Diggs’ off-the-field concerns.
Not only that, but New England was able to save quite a bit of money by releasing Diggs, and it then ultimately swung a trade for A.J. Brown.
Diggs may no longer be the player he once was during his prime with the Buffalo Bills, but he is still clearly effective and would represent a nice security blanket for Daniels.
At this point, you would have to figure that Diggs will settle for a one-year deal, and the receiver-needy Commanders should be willing to provide him with one.
Washington went just 5-12 last season.
