Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has seen his share of basketball greatness—but even among legends, Nikola Jokić stands apart.
Before the Warriors hosted the Denver Nuggets on Friday night, Kerr praised Jokić in historic terms, calling the reigning MVP “the best center I’ve ever seen.”
Steve Kerr Puts Nikola Jokić in His Class

That places the Nuggets’ star in rarefied air, especially considering Kerr’s career has spanned decades as both a five-time NBA champion player and four-time title-winning coach.
“What separates him is the versatility,” Kerr said, noting that not even Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s all-time scoring leader and a six-time champion, possessed the same all-around impact. “I don’t think anyone’s ever done what he does.”
That assessment continues to gain steam as Jokić puts together one of the most statistically unprecedented seasons in NBA history.
Entering Friday’s matchup, the Serbian big man averaged 29.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game. If he maintains those numbers, he will become the first center in league history to average a triple-double over an entire season. Only Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook—both point guards—have done so before, with Westbrook accomplishing it four times.
Nikola Jokić Continues to Elevate His Game for the Denver Nuggets

Jokić has also evolved his shooting. He entered Friday shooting a career-best 41.6% from beyond the arc, with a personal-high 127 made three-pointers on the season. He also sat just 46 assists away from setting a new career high.
Perhaps most impressively, Jokić continues to lead the league in Player Efficiency Rating (PER) for the fifth consecutive season, according to Basketball-Reference. His dominance is visible in highlight reels and deeply rooted in analytics and historic context.
Kerr’s Warriors got another up-close look at Jokić’s brilliance on Friday, as he dropped 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists in the first quarter alone.
Already a three-time MVP, Jokić has nothing left to prove individually—but he’s not done. As the Nuggets aim for back-to-back titles and a second championship in three seasons, Jokić’s brilliance remains central to their pursuit.
And if Kerr’s praise is any indication, we may be watching not just the best center in today’s game—but the greatest one of all time.
