The Las Vegas Raiders made a significant organizational change on Monday, January 5, 2026, by dismissing head coach Pete Carroll following a disappointing single season at the helm. Carroll, renowned for guiding the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory, had stepped back into coaching after a brief hiatus, only to oversee one of the franchise’s most challenging years.

Las Vegas concluded the 2025 regular season with a 3-14 record, securing the league’s poorest mark and earning the top selection in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. Despite ending on a positive note with a narrow 14-12 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, the campaign was marked by inconsistency, including a prolonged 10-game skid.

In an official statement released that morning, the franchise expressed gratitude toward Carroll while outlining the path ahead.

“The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Pete Carroll of his duties as head coach. We appreciate and wish him and his family all the best. Moving forward, General Manager John Spytek will lead all football operations in close collaboration with Tom Brady, including the search for the club’s next head coach. Together, they will guide football decisions with a shared focus on leadership, culture, and alignment with the organization’s long-term vision and goals.”

Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback with seven Super Bowl rings and a minority owner in the Raiders, is poised to play a pivotal role in identifying Carroll’s successor. His involvement signals a desire to infuse the team with familiar successful elements from his playing days.

Emerging reports indicate Brady’s preference for candidates tied to the New England Patriots’ storied dynasty, though not including former head coach Bill Belichick. Attention has turned toward Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores for the lead position and recently departed New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll as a potential offensive coordinator.

“As the chatter goes, Flores would be the head coach, and former Giants coach Brian Daboll would be the offensive coordinator. Like Flores, Daboll has extensive experience with the Patriot Way. Daboll was there for the first three Super Bowl wins of the Brady/Belichick era, and for two of the second trio of championships,” PFT reported.

Insiders suggest a strong rapport exists between Brady and Flores, stemming from earlier discussions when Flores, during his tenure in Miami, expressed interest in acquiring the quarterback post his Buccaneers stint.

“Brady and Flores are believed to have a good relationship. Flores was among those in Miami who wanted to bring Brady to town after his time in Tampa.”

This potential pairing could represent a bold attempt to recreate the disciplined, championship-caliber approach that defined New England’s dominance. Both coaches share deep roots in that system, offering a cohesive vision for rebuilding the Raiders.

The 2025 season proved turbulent from the start. Optimism faded quickly after an opening win, as the team struggled with offensive inefficiencies, defensive lapses, and midseason staff changes, including the departures of coordinators.

With the No. 1 draft pick in hand, the Raiders are well-positioned to address critical needs, particularly at quarterback, marking their first top overall selection since 2007. This asset provides leverage in reshaping the roster around young talent.

General Manager John Spytek, retained alongside Carroll’s hiring, will partner closely with Brady in both personnel decisions and the coaching hunt. Their collaboration emphasizes building a sustainable culture amid ongoing instability.

The offseason ahead promises intrigue, as Brady’s influence grows in steering the franchise toward contenders once more. Whether the rumored Patriots-linked duo materializes remains to be seen, but it underscores a clear direction toward proven winning formulas.

Fans and analysts alike will watch closely as Las Vegas navigates this transition, aiming to end a cycle of short tenures and return to prominence in the competitive AFC West.
