The New York Yankees moved right-hander Brian Hendry to the 60-day injured list at Triple-A, a step that effectively ends his 2026 season.
The announcement came Monday from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the club’s top minor league affiliate.
The RailRiders said: “The Yankees made the following roster move affecting SWB: RHP Brian Hendry has been transferred from the 7-Day Injured List to the 60-Day Injured List as of 8/26.”
Hendry, 26, had been on the shorter injured list before the transfer. A 60-day placement typically rules a player out for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs.
The Yankees open a series Monday night against the Los Angeles Angels in California after taking three of four from the Boston Red Sox. They rolled to a 16-1 win Sunday in the Bronx.
Hendry’s latest setback comes after he finally returned to the mound this year.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound pitcher from Medford, New Jersey, was selected by the Yankees in the 10th round of the 2023 draft out of Oklahoma State. He previously pitched at St. John’s University.
Hendry underwent Tommy John surgery during his junior year in college in 2022 and had a second procedure after the 2024 season. He missed all of 2025 while rehabbing.
This season he worked his way back through the Florida Complex League Yankees and Single-A Tampa before reaching Triple-A in late July. Across three levels he posted a 1-0 record with a 3.00 ERA, two holds and one save in 14 appearances.
With the RailRiders he made five relief outings, allowing five runs in 4 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.
Just 11 days before the latest roster move, Hendry spoke about being back on the field.
“Coming off Tommy John to end the 2024 season, it was a long 2025 rehab,” Hendry said. “Coming into 2026, I had to make sure my body was in a good spot. I’m here now, feeling great, so I’m really excited to be competing again. It’s been a while.”
He added that he had taken a cautious approach to his return.
The organization has dealt with several pitching injuries this summer at both the major league and minor league levels. Hendry had shown promising stuff earlier in his professional career, including a 0.48 ERA in seven starts at High-A Hudson Valley in 2024 before his second elbow surgery.
The transfer to the 60-day list opens a roster spot at Triple-A as the RailRiders push toward the end of the International League schedule.
Hendry’s next opportunity to pitch will come in 2027 after another offseason of recovery. The Yankees have not provided further details on the nature of the latest injury.
