The New York Mets have focused primarily on roster reductions during this offseason, letting several key players depart.

However, on a recent Monday, the team shifted gears by bringing in new talent, though the acquisition isn’t among the most high-profile available in free agency.

According to reporting from Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets have agreed to terms with infielder Christian Arroyo on a minor league pact that includes a non-roster invitation to spring training.

Once considered a highly touted talent, Arroyo earned spots on MLB Pipeline’s top-100 prospects list for three straight years.

In his current stage of career, he has evolved into a reliable utility player capable of handling multiple positions across the infield.

Now entering his age-30 season, Arroyo was selected as a first-round choice by the San Francisco Giants in the 2013 draft, coming straight from high school in Florida.

His big league introduction came in 2017 while with the Giants.

Since then, he has suited up for the Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Guardians, and Boston Red Sox at the major league level. Over the past couple of years, Arroyo spent time within the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies systems, but he did not appear in any major league games for those clubs.

During the 2025 campaign, injuries limited him to only 45 contests in Triple-A with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the International League.

Despite the setbacks, he performed strongly when on the field, posting a .314 batting average accompanied by an .869 OPS.

Across his major league tenure, Arroyo holds a .252 average with a .693 OPS.

His ability to play various infield spots and maintain consistent contact at the plate positions him as a valuable emergency option.

It’s reasonable to expect that he could see some time in the majors at least briefly in the coming season, particularly as the Mets sort out their optimal infield bench composition.
