The Minnesota Twins designated 26-year-old outfielder Kyler Fedko for assignment on Tuesday, clearing a 40-man roster spot for infielder Ben Ross, whose promotion from Triple-A St. Paul is now official.

The club also recalled right-hander Garrett Acton from Triple-A as part of its initial September call-ups.

Fedko, a 12th-round pick out of the University of Connecticut in 2021, reached the majors for the first time this summer. The Twins selected his contract in mid-June.

He appeared in 14 games, mostly as a late-inning defensive replacement and pinch-runner, and finished 0-for-16 with eight strikeouts and one RBI in 19 plate appearances. Minnesota optioned him back to St. Paul on July 10.

Any chance of another look this year vanished in early August. Playing the outfield for the Saints, Fedko tore his ACL, LCL and MCL. The multi-ligament knee injury ended his season.

Because injured players cannot be placed on outright waivers and the trade deadline has passed, the designation will lead to his release. Other clubs could claim him or sign him as a free agent; it is also common for players in this situation to re-sign with their original organization.

The move is a setback for a player who remade himself as a power threat in the minors. After modest production in his first few professional seasons, Fedko overhauled his swing and approach with help from Twins player-development staff.

In 2025, he hit 28 home runs between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul while stealing 38 bases. Across parts of two Triple-A seasons he has slashed .272/.358/.519 with 25 homers and 22 steals in 117 games.

Before his June call-up this year, he was hitting .286/.372/.578 with 15 home runs in 58 games for St. Paul.

The right-handed hitter can play all three outfield spots and has seen time at first and second base. His combination of power and speed made him a useful depth piece, particularly against left-handed pitching. That profile never translated in his brief major-league trial, and the knee injury now forces a reset.

Fedko’s path from late-round pick and occasional development-list resident to 28-homer minor-league season showed real development. Recovery from the knee surgery will take time.

Whether he returns with the Twins or finds another opportunity, the power he displayed in the upper minors remains the clearest reason a team might take a chance.
