There have been a lot of Los Angeles Clippers rumors swirling since they were eliminated from the 2024 NBA Playoffs by the Dallas Mavericks. Some of that focus has been on head coach Tyronn Lue.
Lue, who was still under contract with the team, was linked to the Los Angeles Lakers for their head coach opening. After that information was shared, Clippers rumors emerged that the team could look to sign Tyronn Lue to an extension.
Those Clippers rumors have reportedly come to fruition. According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Los Angeles has worked out an extension with their head coach to make him one of the highest-paid people in his position in the league.
With some questions looming about what the Clippers roster could look like moving forward, locking Tyronn Lue into a long-term extension is great for the franchise. With a move to a new arena set for the 2024-25 season, they will have much-needed stability on the sideline.
With one championship on his resume with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, Tyronn Lue is regarded as one of the top coaches in the NBA. He was going to be sought after this offseason, but the extension means he will be sticking with the Clippers for years to come.
In four seasons with the Clippers, Lue has gone 184-134 in the regular season. They have made the playoffs three times, going 13-17. The franchise’s first appearance in the Western Conference Finals occurred in 2021.
With Lue’s extension done, attention will turn to the team’s roster. James Harden and Paul George are both free agents and could look to move elsewhere. The Clippers would like them back but aren’t going to go above a certain price, which clouds their future in Los Angeles. Kawhi Leonard remains locked in, but his health has been a major detriment to the franchise.
