The Indiana Pacers made a splash ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline, acquiring Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors. There was some risk involved as Siakam was set to become a free agent after the season.
But, he won’t be going anywhere. New NBA rules state that teams can negotiate contracts with their players once the NBA Finals are completed. The Indiana Pacers wasted no time getting to work with Pascal Siakam, as a new contract has been worked out.
The two sides agreed to a four-year, $189.5 million max contract that he intends to sign. Once the NBA moratorium ends on July 6th, he can officially put pen to paper and seal the deal. In 41 regular season games with the Pacers, he averaged 21.3 points on 55 percent shooting and 39 percent on 3-pointers.
Working out a long-term deal with Pascal Siakam seemed like a foregone conclusion given the success the team had. The Indiana Pacers made a run to the Eastern Conference Finals, taking advantage of the hand they were dealt in the postseason.
He was consistently the team’s best player in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, averaging 21.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. The postseason started with a bang, as Pascal Siakam became only the third player to average 35+ points and 10+ rebounds in the first two games of the playoffs.
Elgin Baylor in 1961 and Wilt Chamberlain in 1967 were the only other players to achieve that feat. The 367 points that Pascal Siakam scored in the postseason was the most for an Indiana Pacers player since Paul George in 2014.
The team now has their cornerstones locked in through 2028 and 2029. The deal Siakam signed is the second largest in franchise history, behind the five-year, $245 million rookie-scale max contract that Tyrese Haliburton signed last year.
