The Philadelphia Eagles are in need of some help in their secondary, but the problem is that the Eagles will have fairly limited cap room heading into the offseason (just under $30 million).

As a result, Philadelphia won’t be able to break the bank for a defensive back, but it can look for potential bargains on the free-agent market.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine thinks that Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Michael Davis fits that mold.

Davis played in all 17 games this season, registering 62 tackles, an interception and 10 passes defended. He struggled mightily in coverage, surrendering over 800 yards and allowing a 119.2 passer rating on balls thrown his way.

However, the preceding campaign, Davis gave up just 337 yards while permitting a passer rating of 66.2, so if he can get back to that form, he will legitimately help some team’s defensive backfield in 2024.

Maybe the Eagles could be that team?

Ballentine compares a potential Davis signing to when Philadelphia signed James Bradberry in 2022. Bradberry was coming off of a terrible year with the New York Giants, allowing Philly to pick him up for cheap. He went on to enjoy a very good debut campaign for the Eagles last year. He wasn’t very good in 2023, but, at the very least, he helped the Eagles get to a Super Bowl the year prior.

Davis, who played his collegiate football at BYU, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Chargers in 2017. He has since spent seven seasons in Los Angeles and established himself as a consistent starter on the club’s defense.

The 29-year-old has not missed a game in two years.

Philadelphia went 11-6 and lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs this season.
