Colts Receive Brutal Injury Update On Key Offensive Piece

Zack Moss

One Indianapolis Colts running back will return against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, but they are losing another in the process.

While Jonathan Taylor will retake the field after missing three straight games due to a thumb injury, Zack Moss will be sidelined as a result of a shoulder issue, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk.

Moss suffered the injury in last week’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He carried the ball four times for 13 yards in the contest.

On the season overall, Moss has rushed for 764 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 4.3 yards per carry. He has also logged 27 catches for 192 yards and a couple of scores.

Moss has been a crucial part of the Colts’ offense this season. With Taylor beginning the year on the PUP list, Moss stepped up in a big way over the first five weeks, posting a pair of 100-yard performances. His best outing came in Week 5, when he racked up 165 yards and two touchdowns.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Utah, was originally selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He played in 13 games during his rookie campaign, registering 481 yards and four scores while recording 4.3 yards per attempt. The following year, Moss tallied similar numbers, finishing with 345 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 3.6 yards per tote. He added 23 receptions for 197 yards and a score.

The Bills proceeded to trade Moss to the Colts midway through last season. In 13 contests between Buffalo and Indianapolis, he totaled 456 yards and a touchdown, logging a robust 4.9 yards per carry.

Moss is set to be a free agent this coming offseason, and with Taylor recently inking a three-year extension with Indy, it seems relatively safe to say that Moss will be playing his football elsewhere in 2024.

The Colts are 8-6 and currently hold the final Wild Card spot in the AFC. After facing the Falcons this weekend, they will take on the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans to wrap up the regular season.

Indianapolis has made the playoffs just twice since 2015.
