The Jacksonville Jaguars have found a hidden gem in wide receiver Parker Washington.
After being selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Penn State Nittany Lions’ standout struggled to find a role with the Jaguars. However, the tides would change upon the arrival of head coach Liam Coen, as he quickly became a key piece of the offense through the last nine weeks of the 2025-26 NFL regular season.
Now, with a full season under his belt in Coen’s offensive system, Washington is primed to be one of the top breakout candidates across the league heading into the upcoming season.
Washington’s Impact in 2026 and Beyond
Before his incredible run last year, Washington failed to establish himself on the Jaguars offense. In his first two seasons, the young playmaker recorded 522 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 48 receptions.
This, however, would change last season.
During Jacksonville’s Week Nine contest against the Las Vegas Raiders, Washington broke out, finishing the game with eight receptions for 90 yards. This led to him gaining the trust of both Coen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence for the remainder of the season.
His incredible run after the team’s bye week resulted in him finishing as the Jaguars’ leader in receiving yards with 847. His versatility to play on the boundary and in the slot allowed for Coen to use him in multiple ways, with a majority of his receptions occurring in the short and intermediate parts of the field.
Luckily for Washington, the hype continues to grow heading into the upcoming season, with Coen claiming that Lawrence is “probably throwing to him” the most this year.
“If you look at him as a wide-out on our team, Trevor’s probably throwing to him and Strange the most.. Of guys that are on our roster currently…really confident in him and excited to see what he can do for us,” Coen said to reporters on Jul 30.
Despite the Jaguars’ wide receiver corps featuring plenty of talented playmakers, such as Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, and Travis Hunter, Washington could once again make a name for himself during the 2026-27 season.
