The Sacramento Kings triumphed over the Charlotte Hornets with a commanding 123-98 win on Wednesday, marking their second consecutive victory. Keegan Murray led the charge with 25 points, closely followed by Domantas Sabonis who notched a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Malik Monk, a former Hornets player, contributed significantly with 20 points for the Kings.
De’Aaron Fox added 19 points, and Sabonis also dished out seven assists. This win brought redemption for the Kings, who now stand at 23-14, as they avenged a recent 111-104 loss to Charlotte at home.
Trey Lyles of Sacramento, contributing eight points and five rebounds, emphasized the team’s collective effort and determination to rectify their previous loss. The Kings displayed excellent team play, with key contributions from Sabonis, Fox, Murray, and Monk.
The Hornets, struggling at 8-27, were led by Miles Bridges with 24 points. Terry Rozier scored 22, while Brandon Miller and Nick Smith Jr. added 15 and 11 points, respectively. The team has been hampered by injuries and illnesses, missing key players in several games.
The Kings seized control with a powerful 30-10 run, overturning a deficit into a commanding lead, highlighted by a spree of seven consecutive 3-pointers. Bridges commented on the Hornets’ inconsistent defense and the need for a steady identity.
Sacramento further solidified their lead with an 11-point streak in the third quarter, stretching the advantage to 26 points. Kings coach Mike Brown lauded his team’s defensive efforts and the pivotal role of bench players like Monk and Lyles.
Monk’s performance was particularly noteworthy, with Brown suggesting his candidacy for the Sixth Man of the Year award following back-to-back 20-point games.
Looking ahead, the Kings will face the Philadelphia 76ers, while the Hornets take on the San Antonio Spurs, both games scheduled for Friday night.
