3 Blockbuster NBA Trades That Could Actually Happen

NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

Trade talks are heating up around the NBA. It’s that time of year. Restrictions around certain players will soon be lifted. Before we know it, the trade deadline will be approaching.

This is exciting. By now, you’ve probably got an eye on certain teams that could make a blockbuster deal. Teams that are having disappointing seasons with some veteran talent are strong candidates to make a move.

We’re talking about the usual suspects. The Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls instantly come to mind. There are some potential buyers around the league as well.

Here are three blockbuster deals we think could happen before the deadline passes.

Trade No. 1: Los Angeles Lakers Acquire Zach LaVine From Chicago Bulls

Chicago Bulls Receive: G D’Angelo Russell, F Rui Hachimura, G Gabe Vincent, 2029 First-Round Pick (LAL)

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G/F Zach LaVine

LaVine is a name to watch. Everybody knows that. Unfortunately for the Bulls, he’s not expected to have a robust market.

That makes sense. LaVine is extremely talented. He’s also a volume scorer who can be inefficient for long stretches. LaVine is also a defensive liability. The fact that he’s on a massive contract doesn’t help his value either. Should the Lakers even be interested?

We think so. At this price, the Lakers should happily add a player of LaVine’s caliber. His efficiency should spike alongside a playmaker like James as well.

Is there a player on the market likely to have a stronger market?

Trade No. 2: Indiana Pacers Acquire Pascal Siakam From Toronto Raptors

Toronto Raptors Receive: G/F Buddy Hield, G T.J. McConnell, G/F Bennedict Mathurin, F Jarace Walker, 2025 First-Round Pick (IND), 2027 First-Round Pick (IND)

Indiana Pacers Receive: F/C Pascal Siakam

Siakam will certainly have a market. Unlike LaVine, he’s a stalwart defender. Siakam is among the best two-way wings in the NBA. He can create shots for himself and his teammates regularly.

If there’s a hole in his game, Siakam is an inconsistent shooter. That shouldn’t be a major issue in Indiana. Myles Turner provides spacing at the 5. Besides, Siakam isn’t a non-shooter. It’s rumored that the Pacers are looking for an upgrade at the 4, and Siakam would be a perfect fit.

Still, the Raptors should be willing to part with him at this price. They’re landing two recent lottery picks (one of whom happens to be Canadian) and a pair of first-round picks. That’s a fair price for a player like Siakam, and it’s time for Toronto to rebuild anyway.

Trade No. 3: Golden State Warriors Acquire Bojan Bogdanovic From Detroit Pistons

Detroit Pistons Receive: G/F Klay Thompson, 2026 First-Round Pick (GSW)

Golden State Warriors Receive: F Bojan Bogdanovic, G/F Joe Harris

By all accounts, the Warriors don’t want to trade Thompson. That’s understandable. He’s been a vital part of this team’s modern dynasty. With that said, Thompson is a shell of his former self, and it’s showing in the standings.

The Warriors are having a mediocre season. This deal should help them improve. They’re injecting a tremendous amount of shooting into a system that’s predicated on spacing the floor.

More than that, they’re landing an offensive player who can create his own shot. Bogdanovic should make this team’s attack significantly more dangerous. The Warriors may be mediocre. The Pistons are dreadful. They should be happy to add an expiring contract and a first-round pick.

Thompson could also be a useful veteran for this young core with his championship experience. Either way, keep an eye on both of these teams as trade talks continue to heat up.
