Giannis Antetokounmpo made Milwaukee Bucks history, surpassing NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to set a new team record for the most rebounds during their 128-119 win against the Houston Rockets.

Antetokounmpo’s milestone was marked by his 7,162nd career rebound, contributing to a dominant performance with 26 points and 17 rebounds, leading the Bucks to break Houston’s five-game winning streak and secure their fourth consecutive victory.

“It’s a big honor,” Antetokounmpo said. “I don’t think anybody assumed the skinny kid from Greece that was drafted and supposed to play in the G-League was going to be in a position to break a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar record.”

This isn’t the first time Antetokounmpo has broken a record held by Abdul-Jabbar; he became the Bucks’ all-time leading scorer in March 2022. This achievement adds to his illustrious career, joining the ranks of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kevin Garnett as the only players to lead a franchise in points, rebounds, and assists.

Antetokounmpo has no shortage of franchise records as he continues to dominate for the Bucks, leading in blocks, triple-doubles, games, minutes, field goals, and free throws made. He expressed gratitude for the honor and a commitment to continuing playing at a high level.

“I want to keep on playing the game at a high level,” Antetokounmpo said. “I want to keep on taking care of my body and I know if I do that sometimes you break records. But at the end of the day, I’m beyond blessed to be the all-time leader in rebounds, but I got to keep going and keep moving forward.”

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks Updates

Khris Middleton, Antetokounmpo’s teammate since his rookie season in 2013-14, holds the Bucks’ record for made 3-pointers. When asked about Antetokounmpo’s array of records, Middleton responded humorously, indicating he never envisioned such an achievement.

“Hell nah,” Middleton said with a laugh. “Hell nah. Now he’s got everything, except for the three-ball.”

Antetokounmpo playfully remarked on his ambition to claim the three-pointer record as well eventually.

“I’m going to get that one too, Khris,” Antetokounmpo chimed in from the background. “It might take me 20 years, but I’m going to get it.”

This achievement underscores Antetokounmpo’s remarkable growth and dominance in the NBA, transforming from a “skinny kid from Greece” to a record-breaking superstar.
