In a high-scoring NBA clash, De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings notched 41 points, propelling his team to a 128-123 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, despite a strong showing from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who amassed 43 points, nine assists, and six rebounds for the Thunder.

Despite leading comfortably by 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Kings faced a surge from the Thunder, who narrowed the gap to just two points. However, crucial baskets from Fox and Keegan Murray, coupled with a tightened defense, ensured the Kings maintained their lead.

This game marked Fox’s third 40-point game of the season, complemented by 7 assists and 3 rebounds, and an impressive 14-of-25 shooting performance. Reflecting on his performance, Fox expressed that he was immersed in the moment, hardly realizing the extent of his scoring feat.

“I didn’t feel like it was like one of the games where I was just like, hot,” Fox said. “I don’t really know how to describe it. When you’re just in the moment, I can’t really say I’m thinking about it. … I know I had a good game but I can’t say that I felt like I knew I had 40 already.”

Kings coach Mike Brown anticipated the excitement of this matchup, noting the significance of these young stars in the league’s future.

“It’s a fun matchup because you’re talking about two of the youngest stars in this league that are up-and-coming, and that should have some responsibility to bear the torch going forward,” Brown said.

Sacramento’s win over Oklahoma City extended their winning streak against the Thunder to eight games, bouncing back from a recent loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Domantas Sabonis, Malik Monk, and Keon Ellis played pivotal roles, with Ellis, in particular, having a standout game, scoring a career-high 17 points. He joined as an undrafted free agent, and was elated at his NBA journey, expressing surprise at his rapid rise.

“It’s just crazy to think,” Ellis said. “Always the dream was just to make it to the NBA, but now everything that’s happening is just kind of wild to think of.”

The Thunder, entering the game with recent wins, had Gilgeous-Alexander leading the charge with 14 points in the first quarter. Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault praised his team’s execution and resilience, even as they faced a loss, indicating an improvement in their gameplay.

“I thought the last four, five minutes, we did a tremendous job at that end of the floor just executing, understanding what we were trying to get done, taking what the defense gave us,” Daigneault said.
