Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana is becoming a place where WNBA teams do not want to play. On Wednesday night, the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark defeated the Washington Mystics 88-81, giving them four wins in a row at home.
Overall, it is their third victory in a row and fourth in their last five games. With young players on the team beginning to find their way, and the schedule easing up, the Indiana Fever are beginning to win more success on the court.
Caitlin Clark is a leading factor in that. Against the Mystics, she recorded her second double-double of the season, scoring 18 points with a career-high 12 rebounds. But, the gaudy rebounding numbers are something she jokingly said not to get used to after the game.
“Sometimes the ball just bounces your way a little bit more,” Clark said. “A lot of the times, the people I’m guarding are getting back on defense, so I have a little more free rein of like going and chasing the ball while our bigs are probably boxing out and hitting a little bit more. So credit to them. I think we’re really good when I can get it off the rim and push in transition, so I take a lot of pride in trying to chase it down off the rim and then really go.”
Both of the double-doubles that Caitlin Clark has recorded this season have come with points and rebounds. Her most recent one helped her make WNBA history, according to ESPN Stats and Information.
She is the first rookie in WNBA history to record 40+ points, 15+ rebounds and 15+ assists in a two-game stretch. In a victory over the Chicago Sky last time out, Caitlin Clark nearly had a triple-double, scoring 23 points with eight rebounds and nine assists.
Helping the Indiana Fever get the victory was Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston. Both players scored 22 points to lead the team on Wednesday night. It was a solid overall performance for the team, as they shot 50.8 percent from the field.
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will look to keep the positive momentum rolling next time out against the Atlanta Dream. That is the start of a five-game road trip, as the team will not be back at Gainbridge Fieldhouse until a July 6th matchup with the New York Liberty.
