As the NFL trade deadline approaches in just 48 hours, buzz surrounds a handful of big-name athletes potentially on the move. At the center of the speculation is Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, whose name keeps surfacing in deal talks.
Insiders suggest the first-year passer might be packaged in a swap ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET cutoff, possibly to bolster the Browns’ receiving corps.
Questions abound over Sanders’ continued spot on the sidelines, especially amid Cleveland’s anemic attack that has faltered in gaining yardage and scoring.
Backup rookie Dillon Gabriel has shown little in his limited outings to justify delaying Sanders’ debut any further. A former Browns standout thinks he has the inside scoop on the strategy.
On a recent episode of “The Top Dawgs Show,” ex-Browns standout Joshua Cribbs—a three-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro return specialist—explained that keeping Sanders inactive is intentional. He also shared his view on what the team would demand in any potential exchange for the young QB.
“Shedeur Sanders has too much value at this pick for us not to get him,” Cribbs said. “We can trade him. There’s teams right now that probably want—the Jets—probably want a Shedeur Sanders.“
“The rumors I believe are absolutely true, they’ll have to give up a second-rounder for him, and nothing less. If he plays in the terrible offense right now that they’re showing, his value will go down.”
The New York Jets emerge as a frequent destination in these whispers, particularly with Justin Fields averaging a meager 155 passing yards per contest. Adding fuel, reports have tied Cleveland to pursuits of elite wideout Garrett Wilson, though a move involving him seems improbable.
Nonetheless, Sanders remains a prime candidate for franchises seeking quarterback solutions.
Other clubs reportedly monitoring the situation include the Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and Arizona Cardinals—each grappling with signal-caller uncertainties in recent speculation.
