As the NBA trade deadline approaches, Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson finds the experience far less exhilarating than many might expect.
In an interview with The Athletic’s Jared Weiss, Johnson shared his perspective on the annual frenzy that grips the league.
“(It’s) probably not as fun as it is watching,” Johnson said. “Everybody wants to know what’s going on in their lives. Uncertainty can be difficult.”
Cam Johnson Staying Focused Amid Speculation

The Phoenix Suns shipped Johnson to Brooklyn as part of the Kevin Durant trade ahead of the 2023 deadline, and since then, he has been the subject of steady rumors. The Nets, with a record of 23-46, are in the midst of a rebuild, making Johnson a frequent topic of trade discussions.
Despite the rumors, Johnson has learned to handle the discourse with a sense of remove. “There’s so much to focus on in our own program in Brooklyn that if a trade happens, it happens,” he said. “If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”
Evaluating Cam Johnson’s Impact and Future

Johnson is setting career highs in scoring (18.9 points) and field-goal percentage (47.6) this season. His size (6-foot-8) and floor-spacing ability (39.3 percent on three-pointers across six years) make him an attractive target for any team with playoff aspirations.
Moreover, the $43 million Johnson makes over the next two seasons only looks better with salaries soaring across the NBA. Once the summer arrives, there’s a good chance the rumor mill will spark back up for the 29-year-old. His value will be too high for general manager Sean Marks to ignore any outside interest totally.
Johnson knows his future is secure for at least another few months, giving him the space to focus on helping his team compete every night.
