As the New York Yankees prepare for the long summer of baseball, does adding some talent to their bullpen make sense to help them win now?
The New York Yankees are off to a great start in the 2024 season. After a highly disappointing 2023 season, the 2024 version looks like one of the best Yankees teams we have seen in years. What might be most impressive about the Yankees this season is that they won many games without Gerrit Cole. While Cole is expected to be back this season, the Yankees feel like a true title contender as is.
Since the Yankees have been starving for a World Series for quite some time by their standards, this might be the year they decided to go all-in. Zach Rymer of Bleacher Report recently proposed a trade in which the Yankees acquired Mason Miller from the Oakland Athletics. Here’s what he had to say.
“The first thing to know about Miller is that, at least on a pitch-to-pitch basis, he’s the top hurler in Major League Baseball right now,” Rymer noted.
Miller certainly has some electric stuff and would instantly make the New York Yankees bullpen even better. As we have seen recently, New York loves to have a loaded bullpen going into the playoffs. Some of their best years of late have been because of their dominance out of the pen.
So far this season, that is shaping up to be the case even without Miller. Since the Athletics are a mess of a franchise, Miller’s name has been one of the most talked about on the team.
For the Yankees, with uncertainty about Juan Soto’s status with the team after this season, going all-in to win in 2024 makes much sense. Winning would likely help convince Soto to stay, and if he does walk, at least the Yankees might have got a World Series out of him.
While the bullpen isn’t a weakness for the New York Yankees, you can never have too many good arms. If the opportunity presents itself to add another, they should pounce.
