The Baltimore Ravens are adding quarterback Kedon Slovis to their active roster from the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad, according to reports from NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
The move arrives as the team scrambles to stabilize its quarterback situation ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Injuries have left the position in flux, forcing Baltimore to piece together a functional depth chart on a short week.
Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury that will require surgery and has him out indefinitely, with the expectation he will land on injured reserve.
Backup Tyler Huntley is dealing with a toe issue believed to be turf toe and is unlikely to play.
Even third-stringer Joe Fagnano, who entered in relief during Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills and completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards, is limited by an ankle injury.
Head coach Jesse Minter has indicated Fagnano still has a chance to suit up Thursday, but the uncertainty has prompted additional roster activity.
On Monday, the Ravens signed Austin Reed to their practice squad. Reed spent part of training camp and the preseason with Baltimore, giving him familiarity with the offense and coaching staff.
That familiarity made him a logical short-term addition. With Slovis now joining the 53-man roster, the quarterbacks available for the Jaguars game include Fagnano, Reed, and Slovis.
Slovis, 25, brings limited regular-season experience. An undrafted free agent out of BYU in 2024 after earlier stops at USC and Pittsburgh, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts, was released, and spent his rookie season on the Houston Texans’ practice squad.
He returned to Houston on a futures deal the following year before being waived and picked up by the Arizona Cardinals. In 2025 he appeared in two games for Arizona, completing one of two passes for minus-two yards.
After the Cardinals released him during final cutdowns this year, the Packers signed him to their practice squad in early September.
One factor that likely factored into Baltimore’s interest is prior familiarity. Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork worked with Slovis during the latter’s time in Arizona. That connection could help accelerate his integration into a playbook he has never seen before, which matters on a compressed schedule.
The Ravens opened the season 4-1 before dropping three straight games and falling to the bottom of the AFC North.
Thursday’s contest against a Jaguars team that has been competitive offers little margin for error while the organization evaluates how long it will be without Jackson.
Adding Slovis provides another arm in the building, but the immediate starter and the longer-term plan remain fluid as the short week unfolds.
