Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell is improving after a neck injury, coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday.

Campbell spoke on 97.1 The Fan about the status of the All-Pro defender, who remains hospitalized following Sunday’s game.

“The good news is he is improving,” Dan Campbell said.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury early in the fourth quarter of the Lions’ 19-15 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 1 at Ford Field.

He went down after tackling Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson, remained motionless on the field for several minutes, was placed on a backboard and carted off.

Campbell was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and has stayed there for continued rest and recovery.

The Lions issued a statement Monday noting that preliminary indications are positive, while declining further details out of respect for Campbell and his family.

Dan Campbell addressed how the news has affected the rest of the roster.

“Well, I think the thought of him — knowing he’s doing better — you know, and I’ve kept the captains up to date and they’ve let the other guys know is good news,” he said.

The coach said he visited Campbell in the hospital Sunday night, met with the player’s wife and parents, and found everyone in good spirits.

Teammates also went to the hospital, though not all were able to see him as tests continued.

Campbell has been a central figure in Detroit’s defense since the Lions selected him with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Iowa.

In 2025 he earned first-team All-Pro honors after finishing second in the league with 176 tackles, along with 5.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and four pass deflections.

He signed a four-year, $81 million extension in May that keeps him under contract through the 2030 season and was named a first-time team captain this year.

Through seven games in 2026 he had recorded 57 total tackles before exiting Sunday’s contest.

Campbell had not missed a game in his career and had played nearly every defensive snap since late in the 2024 season.

The Lions improved to 5-2 with the victory over the previously unbeaten Vikings.

Medical staff and players rushed to Campbell’s side on the field, and the team later gathered in an emotional moment after he left.

Dan Campbell has asked for continued prayers while emphasizing that the early information is encouraging.

The organization has not provided a timeline for his return or additional medical specifics.

Fans and the broader football community continue to follow the situation closely as Campbell remains under care.

The Lions will keep monitoring his progress and share updates when appropriate while preparing for their next game.
