The Kansas City Chiefs enter their Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos needing to rebound from their first loss of the season, a defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks.

At 6-1 and contending for the top spot in the AFC West, Kansas City faces a divisional rival that has found ways to grind out victories even without a high-powered offense.

The timing of fresh injury news on the cornerback group makes the task steeper as kickoff approaches at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.

The secondary has absorbed significant blows, via Ian Rapoport of NFL media.

Mansoor Delane, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, has been ruled out with a shoulder injury. The issue first surfaced during training camp and has lingered, flaring up again during the week of preparation for Denver.

L’Jarius Sneed, meanwhile, has been placed on injured reserve because of a knee problem.

The move means he will miss at least the next four games, removing a veteran who had quickly reestablished himself as a meaningful piece of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s coverage schemes after returning to Kansas City following a stint with the Tennessee Titans.

Those absences arrive after an offseason of transition.

Trent McDuffie was traded to the Los Angeles Rams, and Jaylen Watson signed with the Rams in free agency, prompting the organization to invest high in Delane while bringing Sneed back into the fold.

Delane has performed adequately as a full-time boundary corner, and Sneed has settled into a key role. The group has not been dominant, yet it has contributed to the team’s strong start. Now the Chiefs must improvise.

Nohl Williams is expected to shoulder greater responsibility on the outside.

Kristian Fulton and Chris Roland-Wallace figure to see increased snaps on the opposite boundary, while Jadon Canady steps in as the primary nickelback in Sneed’s absence.

The reshuffled unit will face a Broncos offense that has not overwhelmed opponents but has remained efficient enough to stay competitive in the division race. Every meeting between these two clubs carries weight, and the condition of Kansas City’s pass defense could influence the outcome.

The updates arrived late in the week, leaving limited time to adjust. Delane’s shoulder has proven stubborn since camp, and Sneed’s knee has limited him enough to require the longer-term IR designation.

With the AFC West standings tight, the Chiefs will lean on depth and coaching adjustments to keep the secondary functional.

Whether that patched-together group holds up against Denver will help determine if Kansas City can reclaim momentum heading into the second half of the season.
