Once viewed as a cornerstone of the New York Yankees’ next generation, Jasson Domínguez enters the offseason with his standing inside the organization looking precarious.

The 23-year-old outfielder, long hyped as a five-tool talent, endured a disappointing 2026 campaign that has prompted sharp criticism from those who cover the team closely.

Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, responding to a fan in a recent mailbag, offered a direct verdict: he sees no future for Domínguez with the Yankees.

The assessment centered on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Kirschner argued that Domínguez cannot be trusted in the outfield, pointing to multiple botched ground balls that exposed fundamental issues.

On a club where every game carries weight, such inconsistency makes him difficult to deploy in meaningful situations. Offensively, the numbers tell a similar story of unfulfilled promise.

Across roughly 590 at-bats over the past two seasons, Domínguez has managed just 16 home runs, with three of those coming in a minor-league park.

In 2026 specifically, he appeared in 57 games and hit .225 with a .267 on-base percentage and .368 slugging percentage, producing a .635 OPS. He added six home runs, 12 doubles, and 14 RBIs.

The prior year brought modestly better results—a .257 average, .331 on-base percentage, .388 slugging, and 10 home runs over 123 games—but still fell short of the impact expected from a former top prospect. The power that once defined his profile has not materialized consistently in the majors.

Compounding the performance issues is a crowded outfield picture in the Bronx.

Spencer Jones has moved ahead of him on the depth chart, and the presence of Heliot Ramos as a fourth outfielder leaves little room for Domínguez on the 26-man roster.

Kirschner’s view is that he has no business being in the mix at the major-league level after the season he just completed.

Taken together, these factors make a change of scenery the most logical outcome.

Trade speculation has already swirled around Domínguez, and an insider’s public conclusion that he has no path forward in New York strongly suggests the Yankees will look to move him this winter.

At 23, he still carries prospect pedigree that could appeal to another club seeking a reclamation project or a young outfielder with upside.

For the Yankees, clearing space and redirecting resources elsewhere appears to be the practical next step as they reassess their roster.
