Former Wisconsin Badgers cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean has been released from the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad, ending his initial run with the team after a long, winding path from Division II to the NFL.
The move came Tuesday as the Rams added veteran linebacker Jon Rhattigan, a special-teams contributor, and also released linebacker Eli Neal.
Fourqurean, who signed with Los Angeles as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 draft, had been waived during final roster cuts in late August before being re-signed to the practice squad the next day.
He spent the early regular season there without appearing in a regular-season game.
For Wisconsin fans, Fourqurean’s story has been one of persistence. After starring at Grand Valley State—where he earned Division II All-America honors in 2022—he transferred to Madison and became a reliable piece of the secondary.
He dealt with thoracic outlet syndrome as a junior in 2023, then started all 12 games in 2024, finishing with 51 tackles, an interception, and five passes defended.
His size (listed around 6-foot-1, 190 pounds) and physical style fit what Badgers defensive backs have traditionally brought.
The road after 2024 grew complicated. Fourqurean sought an additional year of eligibility, arguing his time at the Division II level should not fully count against him.
He sued the NCAA, briefly secured a preliminary injunction, then saw it overturned on appeal. He ultimately dismissed the lawsuit in November 2025 and sat out the 2025 season.
That lost year made his pro day performance especially important; he still earned a UDFA opportunity with the Rams.
In the 2026 preseason he flashed enough to stick on the practice squad, recording roughly a dozen tackles across three games and seeing significant snaps.
The Rams’ decision to move on now, while prioritizing special-teams help, is a common outcome for undrafted rookies competing on the margins of a roster. It does not erase the progress he made after transferring to Wisconsin and fighting through the eligibility process.
Fourqurean is now free to sign elsewhere.
For a player who already navigated a transfer, an eligibility battle, and the jump from Grand Valley State to the Big Ten to the Rams’ practice squad, another opportunity remains possible.
Wisconsin fans who watched him start in the secondary will be watching where he lands next.
