Former Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier resurfaced on social media to take a pointed shot at his old team after the Minnesota Timberwolves spoiled Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Heat debut with a 131-106 rout on opening night.
With Anthony Edwards scoring 45 points to lead the way, the loss left Miami looking for answers early in a new era built around Antetokounmpo.
Rozier, who remains out of the league amid an ongoing gambling investigation, chose the moment to question current Heat guard Davion Mitchell on social media.
Rozier wrote, “Son son got my whole swag on the court lmao thought the # was enough,” a post widely read as a jab at Mitchell for adopting elements of his on-court style and even his former number.
When fans pushed back, Rozier followed up with another message: “Idk why yall dissing me 😂😂 im glad bra acknowledge the swag ..that’s been since 2015 this Is not about heat culture.”
The exchange drew mockery from many Heat supporters, who noted that Rozier spent limited time in Miami before the franchise moved on once the allegations surfaced.
Those allegations, which involve claims that Rozier participated in a scheme to fix betting props during his time with the Charlotte Hornets, have kept him sidelined.
He was among dozens charged in cases tied to illegal sports betting and poker schemes linked to organized crime, alongside figures such as former Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups.
The NBA has shown little interest in reopening the door until the legal matters are resolved, and even a full clearance would not guarantee a return.
Miami, under president Pat Riley, has long prioritized protecting the franchise’s image and chose to distance itself rather than defend Rozier publicly.
In his place, the Heat have turned to Mitchell as their starting point guard alongside Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, and newcomer Klay Thompson.
Mitchell finished the opener with 11 points and 10 assists, while Antetokounmpo scored 35 points in his debut before fouling out.
The supporting cast struggled to keep pace with Minnesota’s perimeter firepower, as Edwards and LaMelo Ball combined for a dominant night from deep. Heat fans quickly dismissed Rozier’s comments as irrelevant to a team focused on building chemistry around its new superstar.
Rozier’s posts added an unwelcome layer of drama to an already disappointing night for Miami.
While he insisted the remarks were not aimed at Heat culture, the timing and target made them hard for observers to separate from residual bitterness over how the relationship ended.
For now, the Heat’s attention remains on correcting early offensive inconsistencies and integrating Antetokounmpo into the system. Whether Rozier’s legal situation ever allows him another opportunity in the league is uncertain, but his latest social media activity has done little to improve the odds.
