The Los Angeles Rams signed 22-year-old defensive tackle Jaxson Moi to the practice squad Friday, filling the opening created when safety Tanner Ingle was elevated to the 53-man roster, the team announced.
The corresponding moves came a day after the Rams placed outside linebacker Myles Garrett on injured reserve.
Ingle, a special-teams contributor and former undrafted free agent out of N.C. State, gives Los Angeles extra depth in the secondary ahead of Monday night’s game against the New York Giants.
Moi, listed at 6-foot-2 and 305 pounds, returns to the organization that signed him as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 draft.
Moi was waived on Aug. 30 when the Rams trimmed to 53 players. He had been a regular in the preseason rotation, playing 96 snaps — the most of any Rams defensive lineman.
Those reps were not enough to keep him on the initial practice squad, but they left the coaching staff familiar with his work. With seventh-round pick Tim Keenan III already on the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad, bringing Moi back was a straightforward way to keep interior depth in the building.
The Oceanside, California, native is a local product. He starred at Cathedral Catholic High School before playing two seasons at Stanford and transferring to Tennessee for 2024 and 2025.
Over 46 college games and 17 starts, he recorded more than 50 tackles, four sacks, and multiple pass breakups. He started nine games as a senior and served as a team captain, though injuries limited his final season.
He has said he models his game after Aaron Donald, the Rams’ longtime defensive star now back on the roster.
Practice-squad duty is a holding pattern, not a promotion. Moi can develop without needing to contribute immediately, and the Rams can elevate him if injuries hit the defensive line.
At 22, with a compact frame, low pad level, and experience against Power Five competition, he fits the developmental profile Los Angeles has used before with interior linemen who were not drafted.
The signing itself is modest. It does not change the Rams’ Week 2 plan.
It does keep a young, homegrown lineman in the building after a preseason in which he earned more snaps than any teammate at his position.
For a player waived once already, that is another chance to stay in the same system and wait for the next opening.
