The Syracuse Mets, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, transferred right-hander Ofreidy Gómez to the development list on Sunday, according to the MiLB transaction log.
The move came one day after Syracuse activated him from the same list.
Gómez appeared in Saturday’s 9-7 win over St. Paul, working one inning and allowing two earned runs on two walks with no hits or strikeouts.
The quick return to the development list is consistent with how Syracuse has used him all season: short active stretches mixed with time away from the game roster.
In Minor League Baseball, the development list lets a team take a healthy player off the active roster so he can work on mechanics, manage workload, or reset without occupying an injured-list spot.
It is not a demotion to a lower affiliate and does not signal an injury. Gómez has been on and off the list several times in 2026—April 3, May 9, July 26, and now September 13—after being assigned to Syracuse from Double-A Binghamton in late March.
The Mets signed the 31-year-old Dominican right-hander to a minor-league contract last December after a strong winter-ball stretch. He had not pitched in affiliated baseball since 2023.
Reports at the time highlighted a fastball that touched 99 mph and 22 strikeouts in 13 Dominican Winter League innings.
Originally signed by the Kansas City Royals as an amateur free agent in 2012, Gómez has spent more than a decade bouncing among organizations, winter leagues, and independent ball. He has never reached the majors.
In 26 games (two starts) for Syracuse this year, he is 1-0 with a 5.20 ERA, 42 strikeouts, and 29 walks in 36 1/3 innings. The strikeout rate is useful; the walk rate and overall run prevention have been less so.
Career minor-league numbers sit at a 4.57 ERA over 727 innings. The profile remains that of a depth arm: velocity first, command second.
Syracuse has shuffled several veteran relievers on and off the development list in September as the International League season winds down. Gómez’s latest placement fits that pattern.
For a pitcher signed as a low-risk velocity add, these pauses are part of how the organization manages innings and roster spots at the highest minor-league level.
Whether he is activated again before the affiliate season ends will depend on Syracuse’s pitching needs and how the Mets want to use the remaining calendar.
For now, Ofreidy Gómez is back on the development list—familiar territory in a season defined by short bursts rather than a settled role.
